Introducing Repcast

Repcast is a "program-aware training log" for strength training. It solves a problem I’ve thought about for years.

Image of me holding my phone displaying the Repcast app, with text that says "A training log that knows the plan."

When you build in a zero-to-one context, it's helpful to alternate between grinding out features and telling the story of what you’re building. The story sharpens the roadmap. Lately I’ve been in storytelling mode, and the result is the video below.

Some context: As I take some time to figure out what comes next, I’ve been building an app called Repcast. It’s a strength training log that starts from your program (but is also independent of any particular programming source), solving a problem I’ve thought about for years. More on that problem in the video.

One question hangs over any software project these days: In the age of AI, why bother building an app at all? Aren't we all just going to have our personal AIs building us our own personal fitness apps to our exact liking? Maybe.

But there’s a downside to that vision of the world, which is a lack of community. I’m betting that people will ultimately want to share their fitness journeys with others, especially as what we used to call “social media” becomes more algorithmic and less social. So Repcast is also a place to share your training with others.

I’d love to hear what you think of the video. And if you know a lifter who trains on a real program, or a coach who writes them, send them to www.repcast.io.
